Sandy Neck Lighthouse Restoration Committee



                    1826       U. S. Government Purchases site for Beach Point Lighthouse from the                                         Town of Barnstable for $1.00.

                    1826      First Sandy Neck lighthouse keeper Joseph Nickerson, is appointed by                                     Andrew Jackson.

                    1827        First Sandy Neck (Beach Point) Lighthouse built.

                   1857         Existing tower and second keepers dwelling built.

                   1880         Existing keeper's house built.

                   1887         "The brick tower, being badly cracked, was strengthend with two iron                                          hoops and six staves" wich are today painted black.

                   1931         Lighthouse was decomissioned; a skeleton tower was placed 200 feet                                          closer to point

                   1987         Sandy Neck designated as a "Cultural Resources District" on the                                          National Register of Historic Places of the National Park Service

                   2004       The Sandy Neck Lighthouse Restoration Committee convenes for the                                          first time.

                   2007         The 150th Anniversary of the construction the the lighthouse tower.
